Potential war impacts on your business

When it comes to cyber security it pays to be pessimistic. Therefore, this post is going to be a bit of a downer because we have a confluence of situations that could end poorly. With the invasion of Ukraine, come sanctions. Sanctions mean that money and goods will be tight for someone, probably Russians. We also know that Russia has one of the largest cyber crime networks in the world. Cyber crime is something that they are good at and they’ve been practicing with growing intensity in the last few years on Ukraine and other smaller countries. As if that were not enough, organized crime never lets a good crisis go to waste. Together this means that it’s reasonable to expect that we’re going to see an increase in cyber security attacks. Some of those attacks will be high profile but most will hit small businesses. Even prior to this series of events small business became the favored target of organized criminal organizations. If these organizations decide that they need money or that they simply want to wreak havoc on our economy, then small business is the place to do target.

They will try to attack you in numerous ways but always through your staff because they are the front line and the weakest line of defense.

  • The CEO scam
  • Text Message scams
  • False MFA prompts
  • Phishing emails
  • Bad email attachments
  • Phone calls
  • Sensitive account theft

We’ve written you about all of these techniques and how to avoid them previously. We’ve offer free security training for your staff. We’ve configured and deployed nearly 100 security settings and policies. But in the end it all comes down to how well the person that gets targeted responds.

Join us on March 2nd at Noon for a 30 minute Cyber Security Review training. We’ll remind you of what to look for and how to avoid falling for the trick.
