We won the dBusiness magazine award for Corporate Culture. Although we entered, winning came as a bit of a surprise. We entered in order to receive the benefits of a full-scale human resources survey. It’s something that as a small company would be difficult if not impossible to get otherwise.
They surveyed our staff anonymously about corporate culture champions, diversity & inclusion, workplace décor & amenities, compensation & benefits, career advancement, gratitude, teamwork, workplace flexibility, workplace leadership, and community engagement. Then they gave us the result in the format that you see below. We see the distribution of responses, the average and how the results varied among the population of employees.
As a business where everyone works from home, a couple of the categories didn’t directly apply to us, like workplace décor and amenities. Some of our employee rated their home gym pretty low. Not all categories fit us well. But we did get important feedback in other areas like teamwork, leadership, gratitude and flexibility.
We were very please to see that that people like working here, feel valued, heard and positive.
Of course not everything was perfect and we’re taking information about work/life and understanding what advancement means in a small company to heart. We want everyone to feel fulfilled by their career choice.
We won in the category of gratitude. And how do we show gratitude? We do it by saying please and thank you to each other and to our clients. We do it by recognizing small wins and we post those Microsoft Teams using the Praise tool. Once a week we ask everyone how their week is going. Every morning our team shows up for work and says good morning to one another. Microsoft Teams really helps keep us together emotionally and culturally. And we measure everything we do against our core value of “We Care About Your Business“.
This survey didn’t cost us anything. The results didn’t cost us anything. The award didn’t cost us anything. The benefits in helping us, even as a small company, understand our staff just a little bit better are priceless. I would encourage you to participate in reputable, local opportunities like this.
